Dubai’s glittering skyline hides a grotesque secret — a Ugandan sex trafficking mastermind is luring vulnerable women into a world of debt bondage, faeces-eating sex fetishes, and death.At the centre of the scandal is Charles “Abbey” Mwesigwa, a Ugandan who once drove buses in London. He now prowls Dubai’s party scene, supplying girls for the rich and powerful. But for many victims, the dream of a better life abroad has ended in rape, torture, and the grave.Promises of Jobs, Delivered Into Sexual SlaveryDozens of young Ugandan women told the BBC they travelled to Dubai believing they would work in supermarkets, hotels, or salons. Instead, they were met by Mwesigwa’s lieutenants, crammed into overcrowded flats, and told they owed him thousands of dollars.“When I arrived, he said I already owed him £2,000. Within two weeks, it had doubled. You work like a slave,” said Mia, a survivor who lived in one of his apartments.From that point on, their lives became a living nightmare.Degrading Fetishes for the Super-RichClients — often wealthy Europeans and Gulf elites — paid to subject the women to shocking fetishes.Defecation (“porta potty” acts), with some women forced to eat faeces on camera.Urination, beatings, and gang-rape.Extra payments to film the abuse, so women’s humiliation could be replayed for entertainment.“There’s this one client, he poops on girls. He poops and he tells them to eat the shit,” whispered Mia.Lexi, another Ugandan survivor, said she was offered the equivalent of $4,000 to be urinated on, beaten, gang-raped, and recorded eating human waste.She added: “They want somebody who is going to cry and scream. And in their eyes, that somebody should be a black person.”Two Ugandan Women DeadThe trail of misery has already turned fatal.Monic Karungi – Buried in an Unmarked GraveIn May 2022, 24-year-old Monic Karungi plunged to her death from a Dubai high-rise balcony. Once hopeful of a supermarket job, she instead found herself owing Mwesigwa $27,000.Her family received desperate voice notes before she died, crying over her debt and abuse.But her body was never returned home. She lies in a nameless grave in Dubai’s “Unknown Cemetery”, reserved for migrants whose families cannot reclaim them.“She thought she was finally free, she had found a real job. Days later, she was dead,” said Mia, who lived with Monic in 2022.Kayla Birungi – Death in 2021One year earlier, another Ugandan, Kayla Birungi, fell from an apartment block linked to Mwesigwa.Dubai authorities claimed drugs and alcohol were involved, but a toxicology report later proved her system was clean.Her family insists her death, like Monic’s, was no accident.A Market of WomenSurvivors describe Mwesigwa’s flats as brothels disguised as “accommodation.”“It was like a market… 50 girls in one place, all waiting to be taken to men,” recalled Keira, who lived with Monic.Former insider Troy revealed how the network worked: Mwesigwa paid off nightclub security so his women could enter, find clients, and be “sold” for the night.“I’ve heard about types of sex I never imagined. It doesn’t matter what women go through as long as the rich men are happy. They have no escape route,” Troy said.He added that Mwesigwa kept his name off all records by using his employees’ identities to rent cars and apartments.“Dubai Is Mine”When Monic’s relative Michael tried to confront him after her death, Mwesigwa allegedly laughed in his face.“I have spent 25 years in Dubai. Dubai is mine. Embassy is me. I’m the embassy. She’s not the first to die, and she won’t be the last.”Mia and Keira, who were present, confirmed the chilling words.The Hashtag Hides HorrorThe #DubaiPortaPotty trend has racked up over 450 million views on TikTok, filled with jokes and parodies about influencers funding luxury lifestyles by degrading themselves for rich men.But behind the viral humour lies a darker truth — real women, mostly from Africa, are trafficked into these acts against their will.Mwesigwa’s DenialsConfronted by reporters, Mwesigwa denied running a prostitution ring, insisting he is just a “party person” surrounded by big spenders.“That makes me know many girls and that’s it,” he said.He dismissed the deaths of Monic and Kayla as police matters, claiming he hadn’t seen Monic for weeks before she died. Dubai police refused to answer questions.Broken Families, Broken DreamsBack in rural Uganda, Monic’s family — her mother and ten siblings — still struggle with grief. They never saw her body, never held a funeral, never said goodbye.Her relative Michael warned: “We are all looking at Monica’s death. But who is there for the girls still alive? They’re still there. Still suffering.”Ugandan activist Mariam Mwiza, who has rescued over 700 women from the Gulf, says Monic and Kayla’s tragedies are only the tip of the iceberg.“We get cases of people promised supermarket jobs, only to end up sold as prostitutes,” she said.The Empire of Abuse ContinuesDespite the evidence, Charles Mwesigwa still lives freely in Dubai’s middle-class Jumeirah Village Circle, moving between luxury parties and secret flats filled with young women.To him, it’s business.
