Disney has provided an update on the return of its fireworks.Fireworks have played a key role in the daily entertainment at Disney parks worldwide for decades. From Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After to Disneyland Park’s Wondrous Journeys, each resort has its own take on the nighttime spectacular (with some proving more popular than others, as shown by the swift succession of unpopular shows at EPCOT in recent years).Credit: DisneyNowadays, these shows rarely rely solely on pyroetchnics. Projection mapping, fountains, and drones have all played their parts in some of Disney’s most impressive shows, with Disneyland Paris branching out technology-wise in particular with the launch of Disney Tales of Magic earlier this year.Over at Tokyo Disney Resort, however, the fireworks remain refreshingly simple. Sky Full of Colors – visible from both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea – is akin to the fireworks shows found beyond theme parks, with merely music and pyrotechnics.The resort also makes the unusual move of axing these fireworks every summer. While this is, theoretically, the peak period for Tokyo Disney Resort, it routinely pauses its nighttime spectacular, presumably due to the less favorable weather conditions for fireworks during the hotter months.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortDisney Confirms Status of Paused Fireworks ShowTypically, Sky Full of Colors goes on a break from early July to the middle of September. In 2024, Sky Full of Colors returned after a two-month break on September 18. But this year, Tokyo Disney Resort has confirmed that the show will remain on hiatus through at least October.The good news is that the parks won’t be totally fireworks free in the meantime.Instead of bringing back Sky Full of Colors, the resort is welcoming Night High Halloween from September 17 all the way through to October 31.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortMuch like Sky Full of Colors, this syncs pyrotechnics to fireworks for a short-and-sweet five-minute performance. As it’s free of any projection elements, the show is also visible from both parks, meaning you can enjoy it from Cinderella Castle, Fantasy Springs, Tomorrowland, Mediterannean Harbor, and, well, you get the picture.Presumably, Sky Full of Colors will return once spooky season ends. When the festive season kicks in, Starbright Christmas will take over this slot, with its debut fixed for November 11, 2025.Unlike many Disney castle parks, Tokyo Disneyland also boasts a separate nighttime spectacular, Reach for the Stars. This “brings beloved characters to life as they reach for the stars in pursuit of their dreams” with dazzling projections, pyrotechnics, and curated lighting, although the nighttime spectacular proved to be somewhat of a flop with some regular Tokyo Disney Resort parkgoers.
