Rs 620.22 crore disbursed to students enrolled in higher education courses in last two years in Gujarat: Minister

Under the scheme, the beneficiary student is eligible to get 50 per cent of the fixed annual tuition fee of the private institute for the diploma or Rs 25,000, whichever is less, every year.Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education Praful Pansheriya, while responding to a question asked in the Legislative Assembly pertaining to the Mukhya Mantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY), said that in the last two years, a total of Rs 620.22 crore has been disbursed to students enrolled in higher education courses other than diploma engineering, as on August 31, 2025.In the last two years, Rs 10 crore has been disbursed to students of diploma engineering courses, he added. In 2024-25, Rs 4.20 crore of assistance was paid to 1,847 students in diploma engineering courses and Rs 6.05 crore paid to 2,706 of them in 2025-26 as on August 31, 2025.Pansheriya said that under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana, apart from diploma engineering, assistance is also provided in medical, technical degree, Ayurveda, nursing, veterinary and agriculture courses.Under this, in 2024-25, Rs 365.87 crore has been paid to 65,056 students, while in the year 2025-26, Rs 254.35 crore has been paid to 51,933 students by August 31, 2025.Following the Patidar agitation of 2015, the MYSY scheme was implemented by the state government on October 7, 2015. Under this, children with a family annual income up to Rs 6 lakh and securing 80 per cent or more percentile in Class X are eligible to get the benefit of this scheme for studying diploma engineering.Under the scheme, the beneficiary student is eligible to get 50 per cent of the fixed annual tuition fee of the private institute for the diploma or Rs 25,000, whichever is less, every year.
