The recommendations have been made by the PAC with reference to its inquiry with the department into some observations of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report of 2015-16 regarding inspection of the schemes of the R&B Department.The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Gujarat Assembly, in one of its reports, has recommended the Roads and Buildings Department to, if necessary, frame policy, rules and instructions to expeditiously correct the deficiencies or defects cropping up in technical management, maintenance and supervision of infrastructure facilities like roads, bridges, buildings and complexes being constructed by it, and to fix responsibility of the official or department concerned.The Committee has also recommended that the department coordinate with the local police and department of mines & minerals to carry out an inspection to check if sand mining is being done around the pillars of bridges over rivers that could affect the structure’s carrying capacity.The PAC has made these recommendations in its sixth report, dated September 8, that was tabled in the state Assembly on Wednesday. The PAC is being headed by BJP legislator Jitendra Vaghani popularly known as Jitu Vaghani. It also has 14 other members.The recommendations have been made by the PAC with reference to its inquiry with the department into some observations of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report of 2015-16 regarding inspection of the schemes of the R&B Department.While making the recommendations, after seeking a report from the department and making inquiries with its officials, the PAC also expressed concern over irregular inspection by the system and delay in correcting defects and deficiencies in road projects.The recommendations assume significance as it has come in the backdrop of recent Gambhira Bridge Collapse incident in Vadodara district in which 22 persons were killed, on July 9, as vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar river from the bridge. In recent times, the conditions of roads and bridges of the state have also come under public scrutiny owing to their alleged poor quality.The Gujarat Assembly unanimously passed an amendment Bill that proposes to extend the deadline for clinical establishments to register under the Gujarat Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2021.Story continues below this adThe deadline was expiring on September 12. The Bill – The Gujarat Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025 – was presented by Health Minister Rushikesh Patel and it proposes to extend the deadline to April 30, 2026.
