I grew up in the Austin area. The place he's describing is in the middle of nowhere. If he's seeing a specialist in town, you're potentially looking at half a day total to get there, do the appointment, and get him back. I'm betting you get to cook and clean and do ALL the ranch work too. No money at all, not even for expenses. This is sharecropping, only shittier.
