Officials directed to prepare blueprint for waste management at Bengaluru’s K.R. Market

In a bid to improve cleanliness at K.R. Market, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan P. on Sunday directed officials to prepare a comprehensive blueprint for waste management and tackle encroachments.Mr. Cholan batted for a detailed blueprint and phase-wise implementation of the measures.During an inspection of the market, the commissioner noted that the premises generate nearly 70 tonnes of organic waste daily. Currently, the waste is being processed in three shifts. He instructed officials to ensure that disposal is carried out scientifically and not dumped indiscriminately.“Waste should not be dumped indiscriminately, and cleanliness must be ensured throughout the market premises at all times,” Mr. Cholan said.The Commissioner also observed that several vendors were encroaching on pedestrian pathways around the market. He directed officials to initiate action to clear such encroachments and restore pedestrian movement.To streamline operations, the Chief Engineer was asked to convene a meeting immediately with engineers, revenue officers, and officials from Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) to discuss measures related to cleanliness.A tender has already been floated for the development of a smart parking system on the ground floor of K.R.
