Cost for public school sports aren’t fully covered. My son plays hockey and in addition to a $250 school fee (that is going up significantly next year due to budget cuts) we pay a $225 boosters fee and the boys have to fundraise. The boosters have to cover uniforms, some of practice ice time, and they feed the kids on away games. I know for the swim team, while the school covers the pool fees the pool is a 25 minute drive away and parents weren’t comfortable with the kids driving so they fundraiser to cover a private bus. The hockey bogs drive themselves to the rink or some parents drive and there are definitely shenanigans. Bus costs are a huge expense. The marching band hosts a competition (which is a lot of work) partly so they don’t have to pay for the bus. We had to turn down a scrimmage for hockey because the school wouldn’t cover the bus costs and was easily a $2,000 expense. Hopefully it’s not snapraise or something. It bothers me when they use a platforms that takes a significant portion of the donation. I don’t donate to boosterthons, etc.
