Surat Municipal Corporation secured first place in the survey.As a result of the recognition, the Centre will provide a provisional incentive of Rs 37.70 crore to KMC for implementation of projects aimed at improving air quality, the Corporation said.A KMC spokesperson said the funds will be used to expand and accelerate measures that have already helped the city make gains on pollution control.Over the past year, KMC has carried out mechanical sweeping of more than 74,000 kilometres of roads and increased the capacity of waste-to-energy plants while upgrading scientific waste-disposal systems, the spokesperson added.The civic body has also developed green belts and urban forests across roughly 2.2 lakh square metres and installed anti-smog guns in industrial zones and on major traffic corridors.Officials said these interventions, together with better waste management, have contributed to the city’s improved AQI ranking.Looking ahead, KMC said it will focus on four priorities: cleaner air, a greener environment, a smarter traffic system and expanded IT-based citizen services.Story continues below this adThe corporation said the Central incentive will be channelled into projects across these areas to sustain and deepen gains in air quality for residents.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:AQIkanpur
