Ivan Toney believes the Saudi Pro League ‘is on a par with the Premier League’ amid the league’s influx of talent.Toney left the Premier League to sign for Al-Ahli last summer, with the forward joining the Saudi Arabian side from Brentford in a £40m deal. The 29-year-old scored 34 goals in all competitions last season and formed part of the team that won the AFC Champions League. The Saudi Pro League has invested huge funds in developing their domestic game, though several stars have been criticised for moving to the Middle East in the peak of their careers. However, Toney agrees with comments from Cristiano Ronaldo that the SPL is now one of the league’s top domestic leagues. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});He believes the Pro League is ‘on par’ with the Premier League and said Al-Ahli, who have ex-Premier League names Edouard Mendy and Riyad Mahrez in their current squad, would challenge for the Champions League places in England.“Ronaldo has been around the world and probably knows a lot more than me as I have only played in the Premier League, the Championship and Leagues One and Two. For me, [the Pro League] is on a par with the Premier League,” Toney told The Guardian.“If [Al-Ahli] were in the Premier League, we’d give it a good go and we’d be close to the top four. It is a quality league and people should not turn their noses up. We saw Al-Hilal play against Man City and beat them.“I was going to tweet but I would have got killed back home, so I kept my mouth shut. But people saw the quality of Hilal. The standard in Saudi Arabia is high. They can play football here. The players here are not as known as in the Premier League but there are many who can play there.”Read – The best Premier League players without an international capSee more – Footballers with the most goals in a single international gameFollow The Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Ivan Toney says Saudi Pro League ‘on par’ with Premier League first appeared on The Football Faithful.
