For nearly 50 years, Mark Hamill has been the face of Luke Skywalker, the Jedi whose journey began in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope. Yet as the galaxy expands with new heroes, Hamill’s involvement in live-action projects is dwindling.Speaking to ComicBook.com earlier this year, Hamill reflected on his time in the franchise: “Listen, I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the days,” he said, adding that he “never expected it to become a permanent franchise.”Credit: LucasfilmHe continued, “I had my time, you know, I’m appreciative of that. But I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.” Hamill also poked fun at his exit in The Last Jedi (2017): “By the way, when I disappeared [in The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind, and there’s no way I’m appearing as a naked Force Ghost.”While Hamill did later appear as a Force Ghost in The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and in brief de-aged cameos on The Mandalorian Season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett, he’s made it clear he has no plans to return in live-action, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that he doesn’t “have any expectations of that happening.” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has also described Luke’s future as “uncertain.”Credit: LucasfilmRelated: Forget The Stranger, New Jedi Villain Confirmed for ‘Star Wars’ FranchiseFor fans still hoping to hear Hamill as Luke, however, the LEGO Star Wars universe offers a new avenue.
