A family of four from Kuppam in Chittoor district on Wednesday reportedly attempted to end their lives by jumping into the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) dam, at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. The incident left two dead, while the rest were rescued by a group of fishermen.According to sources, Lakshmana Murthy (50), along with his wife Jyothi (45), mother-in-law Saradammal (75) and daughter Keerthika (20), left for Krishnagiri from Kuppam in the morning. After reaching the KRP dam site, 44 km from Kuppam, the family members scaled the bund and reached the lower sluice gate point. All four of them suddenly jumped into the water, leaving the fishermen and picknickers around completely puzzled. The alert fishermen rushed to the spot and rescued the mother and daughter. They immediately rushed them to the Government Hospital at Krishnagiri. However, Murthy and his mother-in-law drowned.The Kuppam police said that the family, which runs a small business, resorted to the extreme step due to financial problems.
