Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Ian Borg has revealed that his ministry is preparing a pilot project to tackle the pressures that tourism is placing on Maltese communities.Speaking at a Labour Party event in Kennedy Grove on Saturday evening, Borg acknowledged growing concerns from residents in areas where daily life is being disrupted by tourism. Videos and posts highlighting these issues, particularly during the busy summer months, have circulated widely on social media.Borg confirmed that he will be inviting the mayors of Swieqi and Valletta, two of the towns most affected by heavy visitor numbers, to take part in discussions on potential solutions. He described the initiative as a way of ensuring that while tourism continues to benefit Malta’s economy, it does not come at the expense of local quality of life. The pilot project is expected to serve as a first step toward identifying practical approaches that balance the needs of residents with the country’s role as a major tourist destination.•
