Arne Slot has revealed when Alexander Isak could make his debut for Liverpool after missing out against Burnley. The new most expensive signing in Premier League history was left out of the Reds’ squad for their trip to Turf Moor. Isak has been made to wait for his debut after being left out of Liverpool’s squad against Burnley on SundayGettySlot instead named an unchanged side for just the second time in 2025, opting against welcoming his new £125million striker in. And the Dutch manager was very honest in explaining why he decided to go without Isak against Burnley. The Liverpool boss referenced the forward’s lack of training after his boycott at Newcastle amid his battle to force through a transfer.“No, not today,” Slot explained to Sky Sports. “As everybody knew, he hasn’t had any team training at Newcastle. “He then went to the national team [Sweden] and only played there for 15-20 minutes.”Slot continued to plan out when Isak could make his Liverpool debut, saying: “We think that in a week where we play three games in seven days, this is the best lead-up for him to be available against Atletico Madrid.”So, it appears Isak is set for his first minutes in a Reds shirt in their Champions League league phase opener at Anfield. But it’s unlikely that he will be playing full games for at least a few more weeks, as he works back to full fitness. When asked how long it may be until Isak can play regularly, Slot admitted: “That’s always difficult to say. “What I can say is that normally in a pre-season, after one or two weeks, you play your first 45-60 minutes and you build that up gradually.
