There are certain forgotten items that never make it to the massive lost and found facility at Walt Disney World Resort. Here’s what you need to know if you leave behind something valuable at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney Springs, or the Disney Resort hotels.Standard Lost & Found Protocol at Disney WorldTypically, if you leave something behind or lose something at Walt Disney World Resort, the first recommended course of action is to check with Guest Services (or the front desk of your Disney Resort hotel). At the theme parks, lost items are typically held at the attraction, restaurant, or other area they’re found in until the end of the day, when Disney cast members drop them off at Guest Services.Credit: DisneyEventually, the items left at Guest Relations are transferred to Walt Disney World Resort’s central lost and found facility, which was previously located at the Transportation & Ticket Center but has recently been relocated to the Town Center area at Disney Springs.Guests can fill out an online form with the third-party service Chargerback, which will notify guests when a lost item is found, even long after their vacation has ended. The company sends email notifications regarding the status of the lost item, and guests can coordinate pick-ups or arrange shipping.Where Do Unclaimed Items Go?Credit: SJ Grant, FlickrWalt Disney World Resort can’t store forgotten objects forever. After a while, most sunglasses, toys, wallets, Mickey ears, and countless other lost items make their way to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida Thrift Store, which has gained attention on social media in recent years as a convenient way to find Disney souvenirs at a low cost. However, some forgotten items never make it to the Disney Springs Town Center Storage House or the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida Thrift Store… So, where do they go?Forbidden Lost ItemsWhen Disney cast members find certain items, usually left behind in Disney Resort hotel rooms, they make a “found property” call to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies respond to confiscate the forbidden lost items, which are typically things like firearms, ammunition, illegal drugs/paraphernalia, or controlled substances.Credit: DisneyThese items cannot be processed through Walt Disney World Resort’s typical lost and found system because they violate the property rules and/or break local laws. Of course, Disney security would rather catch you with these items and ban you from the property, but they still want to handle the items appropriately, even after you’ve left them behind.Walt Disney World Resort bans some items that aren’t illegal. For example, knives and firearms that are legally carried are not allowed at the Disney parks, Disney Springs, or even in Disney Resort hotel rooms. Even though there may not be a criminal charge associated with leaving behind these items (or a legally prescribed controlled substance), deputies are required to confiscate them. Guests will not get them back, even if they submit a Chargerback form.In November and December 2025 alone, deputies responded to over 40 calls regarding found property across Walt Disney World, primarily at the Disney Resort hotels. The majority of the calls came in the afternoon, when housekeeping cast members are more likely to be turning over rooms after guests have checked out.How to Avoid Losing Something ForeverCredit: DisneyCheck the Walt Disney World Resort rules and remove any items from your suitcase that are on the property’s prohibited item list. As for legally prescribed controlled medications…set a reminder, so you don’t leave them behind! What is your favorite little-known fact about Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park?
