Two in custody for unlicensed firearm, ammunition discovered in car at Stabroek

Two men are in police custody after one (1) Taurus .32 pistol along with eight (8) live matching rounds in the magazine were discovered in a motorcar at Croal Street, Stabroek, Georgetown on Saturday.Police said ranks of the CID Anti-Crime Patrol made the discovery at about 19:40h on Saturday in the vicinity of the Route 40 Minibus Park.The car was parked with several males standing nearby.​Upon initial enquiries, no one immediately claimed ownership of the vehicle or the driver’s position. However, the ranks conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered the weapon and ammunition concealed in a compartment beneath the radio deck.​A 26-year-old bus conductor of Sideline Dam, Buxton, was later identified as the driver. When shown the firearm and asked if he was the holder of a license, he replied in the negative.He was cautioned and arrested.​Subsequently, a 32-year-old businessman from South Ruimveldt, the vehicle’s owner, arrived at the scene. He was also taken into custody.Both suspects were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, and the motor vehicle has been lodged.
