Sri Lanka is providing care to 32 Iranian sailors rescued from the torpedoed frigate IRIS Dena, following international law, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said. The frigate was sunk by a US submarine off Sri Lanka’s southern coast, killing 84 crew members. Colombo rescued survivors, provided safe haven to a second Iranian warship, and is coordinating with the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the survivors, while honoring treaty obligations for neutral states under the Hague Convention.
