normalnormalnormalEndocrinologists from across the country gathered in Mohali on Saturday for the inauguration of WE CARE 2026 – Women Endocrine Care & ESI Obesity Week, a national academic initiative of the Endocrine Society of India focusing on women’s hormonal health and the growing challenge of obesity.The two-day conference brought together leading specialists who deliberated on various stages of women’s hormonal health — adolescence, pregnancy and menopause — while emphasizing the need for timely diagnosis and effective management of endocrine disorders.Conference Chairperson Dr. Sarita Bajaj said that caring for women’s health is not only a responsibility for women healthcare professionals but also an important opportunity to improve long-term health outcomes. Organising Secretary Dr. Gagan Priya highlighted the importance of increasing awareness and scientific understanding of hormonal changes that occur throughout a woman’s life.Dr. Priya stated that Obesity is a chronic disease and that new medications used for its treatment, such as Ozempic, should only be prescribed under the guidance of trained endocrinologists.The conference began with a welcome address by Scientific Chairperson Dr. Amy Grewal. During the sessions, Dr. Usha Sriram from Chennai raised concerns about the lack of pre-conception care among women living with Diabetes, stressing that immediate steps are needed to safeguard the health of future generations.Experts also expressed concern over the rising prevalence of obesity among women, noting that nearly one in four women in India is affected. Dr. Shehla Shaikh from Mumbai discussed the link between obesity and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome> (PCOS), while Dr. Nitin Kapoor from Vellore presented the latest guidelines for obesity management.A major highlight of the conference was the plenary session by Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Professor and Dean at All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi, who spoke extensively about the rapidly increasing burden of obesity among adolescents. Dr. Donna Ryan also shared insights on current evidence-based approaches to obesity management.In addition, Dr. Sanjay Kalra from Karnal conducted an interactive workshop on speaker skills development for doctors.
