What’s your feeling with SSEG solar registration right now?

Wait 5 sec.

I’m not trying to start a fight, I’m genuinely curious because every solar conversation I see in SA feels split: One side: “This is normal safety/compliance stuff, just do it.” Other side: “It’s a cash grab/ don’t register / ignore it.” And in the middle are people who just want their system to work and don’t want surprise drama later. So I want to hear real experiences (and venting is welcome): If you’ve got solar: have you registered/ are you planning to / are you ignoring it? What’s stopping you: cost, paperwork, not knowing where to start, fear of getting fined, or just “I don’t trust Eskom/municipalities”? What's your situation? Also, does it feel like people are being scared into compliance, or are the requirements actually reasonable? I saw Eskom saying they’re waiving certain fees up to R10k for household customers until 31 March 2026 and including a smart meter, which sounds good… but I get why people are cautious in SA. https://www.eskom.co.za/solar-pv-registration-legal-compliance-campaign-update-act-now-stay-legal-stay-safe-eskom-continues-to-provide-up-to-r10000-assistance/?utm_source I’m asking because it’s clear a lot of us are either stressed, confused, or over it and I want to understand what the real pain points are. submitted by /u/Motor-Letterhead4940 [link] [comments]
