The PDC have explained why Brendan Dolan will not be playing in the World Cup of Darts this summer.The 52-year-old isn’t going to be taking part, despite recently deciding to change his nationality.Dolan has switched his nationality from Northern Ireland to the Republic of IrelandPAWhilst playing at the UK Open, fans noticed that Dolan had a Republic of Ireland flag next to his name on the scoreboard.Before that, the Enniskillen-born darts star had appeared at the oche representing Northern Ireland.His choice to switch has now been explained and it is not to secure himself a place at the World Cup of Darts in June.Dolan didn’t represent Northern Ireland in the 2025 event, as Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney went on to brilliantly win it together.In a statement provided to talkSPORT.com from the PDC, they said: “Brendan has changed his nationality to the Republic of Ireland for family reasons but has no intention of competing in the World Cup of Darts in future.”Dolan had previously stated that he would never play in the tournament again after last year’s World Cup.It means a Republic of Ireland pairing of William O’Connor and Keane Barry are likely to be reforming for the event in June.However, according to The Sun, Dolan would not have been able to instantly play for the Irish after his switch anyway.
