Just to touch on gastroparesis, as many folks don't know a lot about it: the name is literally frozen stomach. It basically means that your digestive system moves extremely slow (or not at all), and it is usually due to a damaged vagus nerve - either due to diabetes or idiopathic (i.e., the medical professionals don't know). All that is to say that foods that are considered "junk" foods are the easiest for someone with gastroparesis to eat (usually) because they are so processed that they do not require much digestion. "Healthy" foods are the hardest to digest for someone with gastroparesis. And soda often helps move things along. I've had gastroparesis for over a decade, and, until I started the medication I am on now, I couldn't eat salads or raw veggies for but eight years (well, I *could* but it was followed by days of excruciating abdominal pain and constipation). If I ate steak, I was stuffed for 24 hours. I still cannot eat pork - a slice or two of bacon and I'm okay, usually, but anything more than that and I'm in agony. For years, I lived on awful ultra processed food (think krimpets, ice cream, fast food, cupcakes, etc.), because it would fill my stomach and I wouldn't be in agony trying to digest it, or be completely unable to have a bowel movement (I once went six weeks without being able to pass anything - it was horrific). So, are these folks entitled? Sure, but with her diagnosis, I understand some of her specific requests.
