Trainer Bob Baffert had a two-strong chance in Saturday's GII San Felipe Stakes with the 4-5 favorite and 'TDN Rising Star' Brant (Gun Runner) making his first start since running third in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Del Mar last November. But it was his other runner, 8-1 shot POTENTE (c, 3, Into Mischief–Sweet Sting, by Awesome Again) who secured the win and the Kentucky Derby points for the Baffert stable, running down 67-1 longshot Robusta (Accelerate) to win.Brant got off to a clean beginning but had company on the lead from GII San Vincente winner So Happy (Runhappy). That pair led Robusta up the backstretch with Potente sitting a cool fifth, whipping in the main group of runners. Three horses turned for home together with Robusta putting in the the best first jump as Brant wilted along the fence. But Potente, who angled out to find room at the sixteenth pole, was charging hard and just found the line in time to nail the longshot in the shadow of the wire to stay perfect in his young career.
