A Game of Inches: Destino d’Oro Denies Whiskey Decision in Hillsborough Thriller

Wait 5 sec.

Turf mares sure know how to put on a show.It came down to a blanket finish in the GII Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, but Destino d'Oro (Bolt d'Oro) showed her heart with an ultra-game performance to win the photo.Crowned the 2026 queen of the GII Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational Stakes in her most recent performance, via an equally exciting finish no less, the Brad Cox filly has now strung together three consecutive wins. The first of the group was a head decision in her favor two back Dec. 13 at Gulfstream Park when she took home the Tropical Park Oaks. Her Pegasus victory produced her best Beyer figure to date, a 94 to start her 2026 campaign, but the betting public gravitated to GSW Whiskey Decision (Into Mischief) for this contest despite her running fourth in their shared Pegasus World Cup start.Breaking well as the 3-1 second choice, Destino d'Oro saved ground into the first bend while setting up shop in fifth and raced in cover up the backstretch as they approached the far bend after six panels in 1:15.48. Forced to tap on the breaks while Whiskey Decision enjoyed a cleaner trip into the lane, Destino d'Oro was swung into the four path coming off the turn, and she roared home from the overland route with her rival matching strides heading into the final sixteenth. Neither would give an inch, and it came down to a battle of the bobs on the line for a photo that didn't deserve a loser. In the end though, it was Destino d'Oro who topped the cavalry charge with Whiskey Decision in second and Proctor Street (Street Sense) gamely holding on to third. What a wild finish in the G2 Hillsborough! DESTINO D'ORO had to tap on the breaks going into the turn but came closing and got the win over WHISKEY DECISION! @bradcoxracing trains and @juniorandkellya was aboard! #TwinSpiresReplay pic.twitter.com/99j5zEaDpN— TwinSpires Racing (@TwinSpires) March 7, 2026Pedigree Note:Destino d'Oro is the last registered offspring for Heart of Destiny, and the most accomplished of the group by far.
