Just under a week in Johannesburg and I think I’m already falling in love with the city. A couple of things really stood out to me. First is the greeting culture. Where I come from, people usually don’t greet strangers unless they already know them. Here it feels very different. Someone will say hello when you walk into a store, the cashier greets you, people acknowledge you when you pass by. Even something simple like that changes the mood of the day. It breaks the ice quickly and suddenly talking to a stranger feels normal. Second is the weather. Right now it’s honestly pretty pleasant. I’ve been told winter can get cold, so I know what’s probably coming, but at the moment it’s been really comfortable. Food-wise I haven’t explored much yet. I tried pizza from Papa Chino’s and it was great. I’m planning to try more local spots soon. Overall the city feels diverse and surprisingly welcoming. It’s only been a few days but I’m already starting to feel comfortable here, which I didn’t expect this quickly. Any food recommendations or must-try spots around Fourways?
