For doing so, there must exist a satisfactory reason. I (am) afraid no sufficient and satisfactory ground is contended in the application to grant concession to the present applicant/ accused,” special judge Chakor S Baviskar said.Rao, who was arrested in the case by the Pune police in 2018, was allowed permanent bail in 2022, on medical grounds. The Supreme Court had said that he cannot leave the jurisdiction of the trial court without permission. The trial in the case is yet to begin.Rao’s plea was opposed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which took over the probe from the Pune police. Special public prosecutor Prakash Shetty opposed the plea stating that two months is a long period for medical treatment, and well-known doctors are also available to undergo the treatment in Mumbai. The court said that it agreed with the prosecutor’s contention that from the medical papers submitted with Rao’s application, no urgency emerged and the duration for the treatment for two months, “is too long”.Rao’s plea had said that the treatment in Mumbai is expensive. “If the applicant/accused has financial issues, as contended by his Learned Advocate and even pleaded at some extent in this application also, nevertheless, at Mumbai, there are various dental hospitals run by Bombay Municipal Corporation, Trusts and other Charity institutions, which provide almost free and certainly quite good treatment. If according to this applicant/accused, his elder daughter is an Ophthalmological Officer with the Government of Telangana, through her contacts and/or financial support, dental treatment for the accused can be arranged over here i.e. in Mumbai itself,” the court said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Mumbai
