Some of these soldiers were killed in their attempt to move towards Golden Temple. Many others who survived quit the job. They are called ‘Dharmi Fauji.’Kanchanpreet said that her mother led an independent group of sarpanchs and councillors, which ensured that no other election booths were allowed to be set up in the villages, in a bid to support Amritpal during the Lok Sabha election in 2024.“My mother has been into social service for long. Many local leaders were her students and they decided to work under her leadership as they all were victims of the respective governments,” Kanchanpreet added.She claimed that AAP candidate for Tarn Taran by-election Harmeet Singh Sandhu also victimised many local leaders who mobilised under the leadership of her mother.Story continues below this adKanchanpreet alleged that Sandhu intimidated or filed false cases against their allied sarpanches, citing names such as Parmjeet Pamma and Manak as examples of leaders who allegedly faced cases.“Around 40 sarpanchs and eight sitting municipal councillors in Tarn Taran — who were harassed by successive governments are with my mother.”“My mother and her group later merged into the SAD when the party approached them. The SAD approached us as we are family of a Dharmi Fauji with grassroots backing,” Kanchanpreet said.In 2017, SGPC promised memorial for Dharmi Faujis, no such place yetStory continues below this adThe SAD has been highlighting the background of its Tarn Taran candidate from a Dharmi Fauji family.In July 2017, the Sukhbir Badal-led SAD controlled Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC), which had announced and passed a resolution that it would set up a memorial in the memory of Dharmi Faujis. No such memorial has been constructed so far.“The memorial should be constructed.
