Night Of Thunder made it a fantastic four at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale on Thursday when a filly consigned by Barton Stud joined his three other millionaires already sold this week, with lot 494 being knocked down to Henry Lascelles for 1,100,000gns.Bred by Jeff and Phoebe Hobby of Brightwalton Stud, the Night Of Thunder filly is a half-sister to their G1 Prix de l'Abbaye heroine Makarova (Acclamation). Their dam, Vesnina (Sea The Stars), was a 68,000gns purchase at the 2015 Tattersalls July Sale.Ed Walker, who trained Makarova to win five of her 28 starts, was the underbidder on this filly, together with Ed Sackville and Simon Sadler of TBT Racing.“It is the first millionaire for us and a filly, too, which is cool,” said Jeff Hobby. “We have been very lucky. We have been helped by some great people to get here. Matt Coleman bought the mare for us, the Barton team, the Brightwalton team – they all work hard to get the job done.“It was a big decision to sell a filly, but we have a lot of fillies from the family and we have some nomination bills to pay and we need to sell some stock. We needed to have a shuffle around and I thought, if we were going to sell one, she would be a good one; we would be well paid and it would keep the wheels on the bus.”Lascelles revealed that the filly was bought on behalf of an existing client, adding, “We've bought three fillies so far and we waited for this filly today. She comes from a great farm. The market has been very strong this week, but we have managed to buy most of the fillies we have tried on.”Lot 494 was the first filly to change hands for a seven-figure sum at Book 1 this week. She is also one of 21 yearlings by Night Of Thunder to sell, for a total of 12,445,000gns and at an average of 592,619gns.
