(Source: FB)The Kerala Assembly Speaker Thursday suspended three Congress legislators as the opposition party continued to disrupt proceedings of the state legislative assembly for the fourth consecutive day.The Opposition protests in the Assembly were triggered by the row following the high court finding that “gold was found missing” from Dwarapalaka idols at Sabarimala temple.Roji M John, M Vincent and Saneesh Kumar Joseph were suspended on charges of disorderly conduct until the end of the current session on October 10.Since Monday, Kerala Assembly has been witnessing a storm after Congress-led Opposition protest demanding the resignation of Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan and disbanding of the Travancore Devaswom Board following the high court findings that gold has gone missing from Sabarimala temple during gold-plating of Dwarapalaka idols. In the last four days, the Opposition had disrupted the proceedings, trooping into the well of the House and holding placards.On Thursday, when Opposition members trooped the well of the House, the watch and ward staff tried to prevent them further moving towards Speaker A N Shamseer. The Speaker also ordered the security staff to seize the placards and banners from the Opposition members.Chief marshal is reported to have been injured in the scuffle that followed, leading to the suspension of the three Congress legislators.Earlier in the day, Kerala Parliamentary Affairs Minister M B Rajesh moved a resolution in the Assembly pointing out the “disorderly” conduct of the Opposition members and making a case for their suspension,Story continues below this adAs the Opposition had already boycotted the day’s proceedings, the Speaker announced the resolution was unanimously passed.Opposition Leader V D Satheesan accused the watch and ward staff of “attacking Congress legislators Vincent and Saneesh Kumar Joseph”.“Our agitation demanding the resignation of the devaswom minister was peaceful. Parliamentary affairs minister M B Rajesh, who has to ensure smooth running of the proceedings of the Assembly, tried to create mayhem. He along with other members of the ruling bench created provocative situations. We will continue our agitation within the Assembly and outside demanding the resignation of the devaswom minister,’’ he said.Last month, the Kerala High Court ordered an extensive probe into alleged malpractices involving the valuables and gold of the Sabarimala temple following a report filed by the temple’s vigilance officer.Story continues below this adAccording to a vigilance officer’s report, the gold covering of the ‘dwarapalaka’ idols at the temple was removed in 2019 without informing the court, and around 4 kg of gold was found missing after the idols were returned following gold plating.The Opposition Congress and BJP have accused the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government of “facilitating the looting of the temple through the state-run Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB)”, which has LDF leaders as members.
