Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Will Be Non-SBMM By Default At Launch

One of the most popular elements of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's multiplayer beta has been its "open" playlists, which only include "minimal skill consideration," or, in essence, little or no SBMM. Now, Activision has confirmed that this will be the default for Black Ops 7 multiplayer at launch, and it's something that some part of the audience has been requesting for years."At launch, open matchmaking with minimal skill consideration will be the default for Black Ops 7 multiplayer. Simply put, imagine the matchmaking experience of Open Moshpit from the beta, but as the standard in Black Ops 7 on day one," Activision said in a blog post."Our team feels strongly about providing players with a more varied experience, and the beta proved to be a great opportunity to test this approach."It's unclear why Activision is now finally acquiescing to the long-running calls to deprioritize SBMM, but it does conspicuously come as the much-hyped Battlefield 6 is set to square off against Black Ops 7.Additionally, Activision said it's aware of the feedback around persistent lobbies, and to that end, the company confirmed persistent lobbies will be available at launch for Black. Ops 7. People previously voiced concerns and took issue with how lobbies would disband from match to match.Activision also addressed criticisms of Black Ops 7's "rotational aim assist," and the company said it's a priority for the studio to have a "fair and competitive balance" for all input devices. The developer didn't say what it's doing in this area, but more details for aim-assist on controller are coming prior to Black Ops 7's release in November."The purpose of the beta is to test, collect player data, and gather feedback from all of you in real time. We have a ton of information to digest from this past week, and work has already begun to implement key improvements and updates for launch," Activision said. "We'll be compiling confirmed updates over the coming weeks and will share more about what’s changing soon."The Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta ends today, October 9, but today is also the day that Black Ops 6's Season 6 and big Halloween event kicks off. A free trial for Black Ops 6 is also launching today.
