(AP Photo)US First Lady Melania Trump said on Friday that eight Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Associated Press (AP).Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the reunions came after she opened a line of communication with the Russian leader.“In August, I wrote a letter to President Putin, which my husband hand-delivered during his meeting with him in Alaska,” she said. “President Putin responded to my letter, and since then, we have established an open channel of communication about the welfare of those children.”Trump added: “We have agreed to cooperate with each other for the benefit of all people involved in this war.”Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led to the removal of Ukrainian children to Russia, where they have been placed with Russian families, AP reported.In 2022, AP documented the taking of Ukrainian children from occupied areas.
