Liverpool raise more than £226,000 for grassroots programme honouring Diogo Jota

Liverpool supporters have raised more than £226,000 to help fund a grassroots football programme in honour of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.The club, in partnership with Jota’s family, retired his No. 20 across all levels of the football club in the late striker’s honour.His No. 20 shirt is still available for purchase with profits going to the LFC Foundation to help create a grassroots football programme in Jota’s name.Liverpool have announced that so far a total of £226,995 has been raised, and the funds will go directly to establishing and maintaining the community programme.Supporters can continue to have Jota’s name printed on the back of their shirts or purchase commemorative T-shirts from club stores, with all profits to go to the special programme.Details regarding the grassroots programme are to be released in due course.The club are committed to creating other permanent tributes for our No. 20, which includes using artefacts left in tribute at Anfield to help create a memorial sculpture.Thousands of floral tributes that were left at Anfield are also to be composted and used in flower beds across all club sites.If you still wish to pay your respects when visiting Anfield, a temporary area of reflection remains opposite the Main Stand near the club shop.
