(File Photo)The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has provisionally attached 34 immovable properties, including Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) sites, having a market value of Rs 40.08 crore in Karnataka under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with the MUDA scam case.The properties were attached following the raid conducted on Saturday, ED said on Monday. The action comes two weeks after it arrested former MUDA commissioner GT Dinesh Kumar, who allegedly handed over the authority’s properties to friends and relatives and later acquired them for his own real estate business interests.ED has till now attached properties worth Rs 440 crore in the case.Story continues below this adThe Central agency initiated an investigation last year based on a First Information Report (FIR) registered by Lokayuktha Police Mysuru, in the case of a large-scale scam in the allotment of sites by MUDA.The ED investigation revealed the routing and layering of undue gratification obtained by Dinesh Kumar, who used the proceeds of crime to purchase immovable properties in the name of his relatives or associates. It also revealed Kumar had illegally allotted 31 MUDA sites in gross violation of letter dated March 14, 2023, Government Order dated October 27, 2023, Karnataka Urban Development Authorities (Allotment of Sites in lieu of compensation for the land Acquired) Rules, 2009 as amended in 2015 and Karnataka Urban Development Authority (Incentive Scheme for voluntary Surrender of Land) Rules, 1991.The ED noted a deep nexus between MUDA officers and real estate businessmen, and found that cash was paid for allotment of sites as compensation and approval of layout, ED said.Earlier, in the case, the ED had provisionally attached 252 illegally allotted MUDA sites.
