The injured woman was initially taken to a hospital, where the accused told doctors that she had fallen, the police said, adding that before dying, she informed the hospital about the assault.The Peenya police said Chokkasandra residents Preeti Singh, 28, and her husband Chota Lal Singh, 32, hailed from Madhya Pradesh and worked in factories in Bengaluru. They have two daughters.According to a police officer, on September 24, when Preeti returned home in the afternoon for lunch, Chota Lal asked her for water, but she refused to give it to him. He picked a quarrel over this and attacked her with a rolling pin used for making chapatis, striking her repeatedly on the head and body.Story continues below this adLater, a severely injured Preeti was taken to a hospital in T Dasarahalli, where Chota Lal tried to conceal the assault and falsely informed the doctors that his wife had fallen from the first floor of a building, the police said.Preeti, who had lost consciousness following the attack, regained her senses later and informed the doctor about the incident, who in turn alerted the police, an officer stated. D L Nagesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Northwest, said Preeti’s children also met the owner of the company where she worked and informed him about the assault.As Preeti underwent treatment at the hospital, the police registered a case of attempted murder against Chota Lal and took him into custody for questioning on September 25. He was arrested and sent to judicial custody. However, the woman succumbed to the injuries on October 2. The Peenya police then altered the sections charged from assault to murder.A police officer said Preeti was in a coma during most of her treatment period, regaining consciousness only once or twice.
