Zach Allen re-committed to Denver for a huge stage like this. The Broncos left Philadelphia with the biggest win of Week 5, then flew to London dreaming of finally winning back the AFC West for the first time since 2015. But the fact that we’re in a pretty good spot right now is really encouraging. We’ve just got to keep on stacking wins and winning AFC games and division wins.”Allen, 28, was the No. 65 overall pick (third round) out of Boston College in the 2019 Draft, and spent his initial four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He followed up a career year in 2024 by re-signing with the Broncos via a four-year, $102 million contract extension. To Allen, who follows Manchester City in the Premier League, an early October day in England felt like being back in his native state of Connecticut. “Loving London so far,” said Allen, who started 16 games last season while recording 8.5 sacks, 61 combined tackles and 40 quarterback hits.Allen and the Broncos (3-2) face the New York Jets (0-5) on Sunday at the Tottenham’s home stadium.Denver’s international flight was even smoother after the second-ranked defense in the NFL held Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown to just 17 points in Philly. “It definitely makes the trip a lot more fun,” Allen said. “Obviously a win like that kind of just proves what we’re doing is right. … This week, we haven’t been too focused on that. We’ve been focused on the Jets, kind of finding ways to improve.Zach Allen believes that Bo Nix, left, can lead the Broncos to the playoffstalksport“There’s still a lot that we can improve on, so it’s been a really productive week and guys are handling it really well.” The 6ft 5in and 285lb Allen is in his seventh pro season. He was named second-team All-Pro last year and finished 14th in Defensive Player of the Year voting. As a rookie, Allen only played in four games for the Cardinals and made one start.Yet he watched and learned from J.J. Watt, who was one of the most dominant defenders in NFL history during his prime, and is now a minority owner of Burnley. “It was cool to be around him because you just kind of see his process every day,” said Allen.GettyNix forms a formidable pair with Sean Payton[/caption]“When you see that and just able to kind of learn from it, basically anything’s possible. He was great to me — still is great, still talk to him every week.“It’s a lot about soccer, football. But he was really a big part of that ascension in my career and I’m really fortunate to play with him.”On Sunday, Allen will hit Tottenham’s turf next to Nik Bonitto, who’s become one of the premier young linebackers in the sport. Denver has allowed 17 points or less in three of its five games, while Bonitto was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after the Broncos humbled the Eagles on the road and kept climbing up talkSPORT’s Super Bowl power rankings. “He’s an athletic freak, so that speed on the edge is really rare,” Allen said. “And he’s a really unselfish guy, also. He’s a really smart player. Our whole group up front, the four of us … a lot of people think, oh, it’s all planned kind of what we’re doing. But a lot of it is just reading off each other, and we all pride ourselves on winning one-on-one.GettyThe ‘obsessed’ duo are paired with one of the league’s best defenses[/caption]“So whoever has the one-on-one wins, and that’s why all four guys have been having success this year. It’s a really special group and it’s great to see we’re doing it again this year.”Denver’s swarming defense completes the Broncos’ circle.Second-year quarterback Bo Nix, paired with former Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton, could turn a rising team into a serious playoff threat once January arrives. “They’re both really special and they’re both obsessed with it,” Allen said. “When you have at those two positions guys who just love it and are obsessed with being great, that means everything for a franchise.“That was another reason why I think you see all of us trying to stay in Denver, because there’s some places where you know they can’t get the quarterback right or can’t get the coach right.“But when you have those two things right, it’s it’s really special. We’re really excited what we’re building and hopefully it just keeps going up and up.”Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
