It is an arterial road for local residents, as it connects to Gurgaon, said officials.Due to uneven road alignment, poor drainage system and encroachment, the stretch witnesses heavy traffic jam. In monsoon, the congestion increases, as the stretch gets heavily waterlogged, causing further inconvenience to those taking this route to commute between Delhi and Gurgaon and to Badarpur and other areas in South Delhi.“The MB Road stretch is now even more congested with the Metro corridor coming up. It is also poorly aligned… for instance, it is wide and will then become narrow with encroachments on both sides. We believe that re-designing the stretch would improve traffic movement,” said an official.Officials said an overhaul plan is in the works to improve connectivity in the area.Story continues below this adAs part of this, PWD plans to construct a 2.42-km-long elevated corridor or an underpass between the Asian Market near Pushp Vihar and Batra Hospital.“Saket, especially the area around Select City Mall, sees traffic moving at a snail’s pace in peak hours. Here too, the roads are narrow and there are shops on both sides. Moreover, the area is near the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, which connects to Gurgaon as well as the upscale Chhatarpur, Saket, Pushp Vihar, and Vasant Kunj…,” said a senior PWD official.Officials said they also have plans to develop an underpass at the upcoming Saket-G Block Metro station, which is under construction as part of Delhi Metro Phase IV. Moreover, PWD plans to develop a 2.4-km-long elevated stretch from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Tughlakabad railway crossing and a 0.44-km-long ramp between Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and MB Road.Officials said PWD also plans to remodel drainage systems of Zakhira underpass, Rohtak Road and Karala-Kanjhawala Road — some of the top waterlogging hotspots in Delhi.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Delhi Public Works DepartmentNew Delhi
