my mom and our neighbor are bickering over a wall.

Wait 5 sec.

yards are assigned sizes and are separated by a fence or a brick wall. well, our home and neighbor's house was separated by a metal fence. few years down the line, our neighbour had a head start and replaced the fence with a brick wall, she create the well known "stop nonsense" iykyk. this didn't create any issues. it was, in fact, a good thing (at the time). a bit of privacy, sound insulation, a place to hang washed blankets etc. that didn't last long. few issues: 1. ironically, we weren't allowed to hang whatever. reason being "the wall doesn't belong to you". 2. random people would jump the wall (from the neighbour's side) to create a shortcut to wherever they were going and thus compromising our sense of security. for context, the wall is average height. it's easy to climb it. with these issues hanging loose, my mom decided to make plans to increase the height of the wall. silly her, she didn't know what was about to unfold. she went to the neighbour, they spoke about it, the neighbor approved but when it was time for builders to start laying the bricks on top of her wall the neighbour refused. it was the usual "don't add bricks on top of my wall", "create your own wall inside your yard". you can take a wild guess what happened after that. yes, a good old fashion kasi bickering. creating a spectacle for everyone to hear and see. over a god damn wall! 😂 that's pure cinema. yes, the neighbour used her money to build the wall but the boundary doesn't belong to her and we have the right to add a wall on top of her wall to increase it's height. my mom felt unsafe because of how easy people jump the wall. a tall wall would've satisfied her but the neighbor insists on mom building her own wall from the ground up. my mom said "akazuyenza lokaka" in english it's "i'll never do that kak" as im typing this, moms literally went to the police station. she went to open a case, i don't know for what. she said she'll let the judge decide whether she should add her own wall on top of the already existing wall or not. im waiting for her to come back. but meanwhile... what do you guys think? is my mom wrong? is the neighbor wrong? what should happen? what are your thoughts? submitted by /u/Safety_Most [link] [comments]
