A loyal dog named Eeyore is being hailed as an absolute hero after he led a quick-thinking Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy straight to his “grandmother,” who had taken a nasty tumble and couldn’t get back up during their evening walk. It’s truly a story that proves sometimes heroes come with four legs and a wagging tail, just like the Sheriff’s Office noted themselves, and honestly, you won’t believe how intuitive and fast this dog was when his family needed him most. The whole thing kicked off when a deputy, identified as Deputy Devon Miller in some reports, got a frantic call from a man in the Shalimar area of the Florida Panhandle. His wife had gone out with the dog, Eeyore, for a quick stroll that usually takes no more than 10 or 15 minutes, but she was now gone for well over an hour, according to ABC Chicago. The emotional husband was clearly worried sick, explaining to the deputy that his wife “never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes, and it’s almost an hour now.” If you’ve ever had a loved one go missing, you know that feeling of fear, and it really shows you the immediate need for help in that moment. To be fair, most of us would be frantic if a loved one and their 100-pound dog vanished after a short walk. Hero dog saves a woman’s life The deputy immediately started cruising the neighborhood, looking for any sign of the missing woman or her pup. It must have felt like a needle in a haystack, but that’s when the star of our story, Eeyore, appeared. The loyal good dog saw the patrol car and came running up to it, clearly distressed but with a purpose. It’s like something out of a movie, where the hero dog knows exactly what to do when their human is in trouble. Deputy Miller didn’t hesitate. She stopped her vehicle, got out, and instinctively started talking to the furry family member. “Hi, baby, where’s your mama?” she asked the pup, and then more directly, “Show me where your mama is.” That’s all it took. Eeyore immediately turned around and started leading the way, running back across a front lawn and through the neighborhood. Some heroes wear collars! The dog led Deputy Miller right to the injured woman, who was found alert and conscious but lying on the sidewalk. She had clearly injured herself and was unable to get up and make her way home in the dark. The body camera footage released by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office captured the incredibly heartwarming moment. After calling for emergency medical services (EMS), the deputy started explaining how she found the woman. The injured resident seemed shocked, asking the deputy, “The dog brought you?” This is enough to make a good dog movie. The deputy confirmed the pup’s impressive actions, explaining, “He ran up to my car and I said ‘Bring me to your mommy.’ And he ran back here.” The woman explained her relationship to the deputy, saying, “I’m not even his owner. I’m his grandmother.” The elderly resident made it clear that Eeyore’s loyalty was a constant throughout the ordeal, noting that “He wouldn’t leave. He kept coming back to me.”
