Telangana has 638 PHCs providing round-the-clock services: DPH

In response to The Hindu report titled ‘IMA calls State’s rural healthcare unsustainable’, published on October 8, Telangana’s Director of Public Health (DPH) has stated that the State currently operates 638 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Telangana, catering to the healthcare needs of rural and tribal populations.“The State government is continuously upgrading facilities to provide round-the-clock services, including deliveries, surgeries and emergency care, ensuring that rural populations receive comprehensive healthcare services near their habitations,” the statement said.Under the control of Directorate of Public Health and Family Welfare, a total of 1,238 Civil Assistant Surgeon posts have been sanctioned, of which 1,104 are currently filled. The remaining 134 vacancies have been proposed for direct recruitment through the Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board to meet the rising healthcare demands in rural areas, the statement added.Published - October 08, 2025 10:29 pm IST
