Responding to questions, the BMC officials stated that the hoardings will be removed after the two-day visit concludes.From painting dividers to fixing potholes, Mumbai has been spruced up amid UK PM Keir Starmer and PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the city as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation sprung to action with a beautification and cleanliness drive, this week.According to senior BMC officials, the beautification works as well as round-the-clock cleanliness drives have been initiated in several high-profile wards, such as A ward, D ward, G/South ward, H/East ward etc, where Prime Minister Starmer is poised to visit over his two-day visit to Mumbai.On his first official visit to the country, PM Starmer landed in Mumbai on Wednesday for a two-day visit, where he is set to undertake bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attend the Global Fintech summit in Mumbai.Gearing up for the high-profile visit, several pockets of the city–which lie along the VIP route–have undergone an uplift with the BMC kicking off beautification and intensive cleanliness works since Monday. An official privy to the developments said that round-the-clock cleaning works were initiated across at least four wards since Monday, by roping in additional labourers as well as machinery like compactors and dust sweeping machines.“Several works have been initiated in wards like A ward where the UK PM Starmer has been residing, the D ward which houses Raj Bhavan, the H/West and H/East ward wherein the G/South ward among others,” the official added.In the A ward, civic officials said that improvement works were carried out along the route of the dignitaries’ routes starting from Colaba fire brigade including Capt Prakash Pethe Marg to the route along Mantralaya leading upto the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Marg (Marine Drive).Speaking to The Indian Express, a civic source from the ward office said, “Along the route of the VIP movement, we have painted the dividers, trimmed the trees, filled potholes as well as carried out cleaning works in the area.”Story continues below this adStarting Tuesday, the BMC also displayed the British and Indian flags through laser projections on the civic headquarters in Fort.In areas like Andheri, similar beautification and cleanliness drives were carried out along the Link Road and Fun Republic Lane, where PM Starmer on Wednesday visited the YRF office for a screening.Dhaval Shah, a Lokhandwala resident said, “Typically, the Fun Republic Lane experiences severe traffic congestion as nearly a quarter of the lane is blocked by parked vehicles. Meanwhile, there are at least 100 food stalls on the footpath frequented by office-goers.
