Pat McAfee leaves CBS announcer JJ Watt lost for words with sly jab over ‘birthday’ broadcast assignment

Wait 5 sec.

It was just a joke, right? On Wednesday afternoon, Pat McAfee had some fun on his show at his guest’s expense, ribbing the future Hall of Famer and current CBS broadcaster, J.J. Watt. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year for the Houston Texans has since transitioned into a blossoming second career in the broadcast booth with CBS.Last year, he was a studio analyst and has now become a color commentator alongside the legendary Ian Eagle.Watt and Eagle make up CBS’s No. 2 broadcast team, behind Jim Nantz and Tony Romo.Watt and Eagle are heading to Pittsburgh this weekend to call the Steelers-Browns game — where Watt’s younger brother, T.J., plays for the home team.A fact that McAfee brought up to Watt on his show. What did Pat McAfee say?“J.J., what game do you have this weekend?” McAfee asked.“This weekend I have the Browns at the Steelers, AFC North battle,” Watt replied.“You’re calling a lot of your brother’s games,” McAfee pointed out with a smile.“It turns out that the second best AFC game on CBS every week generally does tend to involve the Pittsburgh Steelers, while they’re sitting at 3-1,” Watt fired back.“Yes, there have been quite a few. It’s his birthday on Saturday so I’m looking forward to seeing him.”X/@PATMCAFEESHOWMcAfee loves to joke around with his guests[/caption]McAfee is right that Watt has called a lot of his brother’s games so far, in just six weeks, this will be Watt’s third Steelers game.He called the season opener when they played the Jets and called Week 3’s game against the Patriots. However, in fairness to Watt, this will be the first Pittsburgh home game he calls. The broadcast team also obviously does not choose where they go.Of course that didn’t stop McAfee from playfully jabbing his guest.“Birthday game for T.J. Watt, got to take that into account for sure,” McAfee said.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?“Especially with big bro up in the booth. Every time you’re up there, he does well?”“Patriots’ game, he had two sacks,” Watt recounted. “The first game wasn’t too great.”“Hey let’s make sure we’re non-biased,” McAfee joked. “Don’t be getting too excited up there whenever T.J. makes a play.”Watt brushed off the comments and shifted the focus back to the game itself, highlighting how Cleveland’s draft class has been crushing it.He also mentioned that his brother isn’t the only great pass rusher who will be on the field and expressed how excited he is to watch Myles Garrett. The Steelers are coming off a bye, after they traveled to Dublin, Ireland and took down the Minnesota Vikings 24-21.Watt has been with CBS since 2023GettyThey are 3-1 and currently in first place in the AFC North. The Bengals trail them at 2-3, while the Browns and Ravens sit at 1-4.The Steelers are 2-0 with the elder Watt on the call, and of course, he won’t admit it—but he’d probably like to make it 3-0 on Sunday, with his brother getting another win.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more
