The Jnanabharati police booked a 20-year-old student recently after a video of him wearing a t-shirt bearing the ‘Azad Kashmir’ symbol went viral on social media, with viewers demanding legal action.The second-year private college student was riding pillion on a two-wheeler on September 23, when one of the passers-by recorded the video and put it on social media.Mohan Kumar, police sub-inspector, media monitoring cell, took cognizance of the incident and registered an FIR charging him under section 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and engaging in acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) of the BNS, for further investigation.The police traced the accused based on the registration number of his bike and issued a notice to him to appear for the questioning. The accused reportedly told the police that one of his relatives had gifted him the t-shirt and he wore it without realising the repercussions.Published - October 09, 2025 12:51 am IST
