I always appreciate information that is relevant about the kids. Something like “loves to hike, so you’ll be really active” or “loves sports so you’ll be driving most of the time to and from activities” are great to know before applying. For some people, those things mean the family might not be a good fit. In this particular ad, while mom isn’t very clear, she does paint a picture of the children being possibly special needs or just needing someone more experienced. While she could be a better communicator, I’d say some of the things she pointed to (like the kids being non verbal, one not potty trained) make sense to list before an interview occurs. As someone with experience in the childcare industry, you’re not wrong about the desperate or creepy part. I’ve heard plenty of horror stories to know you never want anyone who isn’t family watching your kids for free. If they’re willing to do that, you better hope they just have poor judgement, because the alternative is they are getting something out of it.
