(Reuters)Marnus Labuschagne was dropped while Mitchell Starc returned to Australia’s ODI squad for the three-match home series against India starting on October 19. With Pat Cummins still out injured as he recuperates from a back injury (lumbar bone stress), Mitchell Marsh will captain the Australians against Shubman Gill’s India.Starc last played in an ODI for Australia in November 2024 in Adelaide against Pakistan. The fast bowler called time on his T20I career just last month and opted to skip the home ODI series against South Africa in August to recuperate from the grind of the West Indies Test tour. Starc is one of the four additions to the Australian side that lost 1-2 to South Africa at home: the others being uncapped batter Matthew Renshaw, Matt Short and Mitch Owen.India had named their squads for the tour of Australia just last week, with some decisions that opened a debate. While Gill was elevated to ODI captaincy over Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer was named as his deputy. The selectors said they had named the Indian side with one eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup, with Gill’s elevation now supposed to give him ample time to adjust to his new responsibilities. The Indian team will have Sharma and the other stalwart Virat Kohli in the side.Story continues below this adGlenn Maxwell is still unavailable due to the fracture he suffered to his wrist on the tour to New Zealand. Cameron Green will continue his preparation for the Test summer with Western Australia following the ODI leg of the Indian series.The Australian selectors have also named a 14-member team under Marsh for the first two T20Is.What’s notable in the Australian sides named by the selectors is that Alex Carey has opted to skip first ODI in Perth to play the second round of Sheffield Shield against Queensland at the Adelaide Oval.
