The accused, Sachin Yadav, has been apprehended.According to the FIR filed by the Delhi Police, the case came to light on Thursday, when two fourth-year LLB students from Karnataka approached the police. “I and my classmates were searching for a stay ahead of an internship, which was going to start from September 30. We found his (Yadav) number on a website of a popular online platform,” one of the students told The Indian Express. When the students contacted Yadav, he allegedly asked them to visit his website — novastays.com — to check the properties available. Yadav then offered the students a plush three-bedroom apartment in Safdarjung Enclave, with a rent of Rs 70,000 a month, the FIR states. He sought Rs 30,000 as the deposit.Story continues below this ad“We liked the apartment in pictures. But all of us were in Karnataka at that time. So, I told a friend in Delhi to go to the man and ask him to show the property. My friend went, and the property was the same as he (Yadav) had claimed,” the student said.Satisfied, the students allegedly sent Yadav Rs 1 lakh, and confirmed the details of the booking. On September 29, the students landed in Delhi and contacted Yadav but they were left helpless when he told them that he had now closed his business and the flat was no longer available for rent, the FIR states.“We were left stranded. One more student from my college booked with the same guy, and she was also conned. We all requested him for a refund. He initially said he would return the money in two days, but then he kept ignoring us,” another student said.Exhausted, and with no permanent place to live during their internship, the students approached the police on Thursday. An FIR was registered, and Yadav was brought in for questioning on Friday, a police officer said.Story continues below this adDuring the questioning, the accused allegedly revealed that the students were not his first victims. “During enquiry, it surfaced that Yadav cheated other students also with the same modus operandi.
