Written by Debraj DebAgartala | October 10, 2025 08:21 PM IST 2 min readA total of six inmates, including five undertrial prisoners and one convict, fled the sub-jail on the morning of October 1.The Tripura Police Friday nabbed an inmate who had escaped from the Dharmanagar sub-jail in North Tripura district last week.The inmate, identified as Mohammad Rahim Ali, was re-arrested by a team headed by sub-inspector Biswajit Das of Dharmanagar police station with the help of the Assam Police in the neighbouring state’s Sribhumi district.A total of six inmates, including five undertrial prisoners and one convict, fled the sub-jail on the morning of October 1.The inmates escaped after attacking security guard Bedu Miah with some sharp weapons. Miah was admitted to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable now.With Rahim Ali in the police net, three of the six escapees have been rearrested so far.The inmates, who escaped from the sub-jail, have been identified as Najim Uddin and Md Rahim Ali, both from Churaibari, situated near the Assam-Tripura border, Sunil Debbarma from Melaghar in Sepahijala district, Rosan Ali from Kadamtala in North Tripura district, Abdul Patta of Nilambazar in Assam’s Sribhumi district, and Narayan Chandra Datta from Bangladesh’s Feni district.Among the inmates who fled, Abdul Patta, Rahim Ali, Datta, Rosan Ali, and Najim Uddin are under-trial prisoners. Whereas Sunil Debbarma has been convicted of murder and is serving life imprisonment.Story continues below this adA day after the jailbreak, five officials, Dhananjoy Bhattacharya, Pallab Kanti Bhowmik, Prashikhan Jamatia, Mohammad Gedu Mia and Notan Lodh, were suspended in connection with the incident. Bhattacharya was the jailor, while the rest were wardens.An official said that in light of the incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been asked to maintain a strict vigil along the India-Bangladesh international border to prevent the remaining escapees from crossing into the neighbouring country.A close watch is also being maintained along all entry and exit points with Assam and Mizoram.© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Tripura
