The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai, organised a stakeholders conclave on the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World: Partnerships for the Goals” in Vellore on Wednesday.According to a press release, the conclave was inaugurated by Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi in the presence of S.D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS (Chennai) and B.J. Gowtham, Joint Director, BIS (Chennai).In his address, Arun Pucchakayala, Director, BIS (Chennai), underlined the role of BIS in formulating national standards and encouraging their adoption across sectors. He emphasized the importance of academic institutions and industry in the mission, noting that equipping researchers with knowledge about quality and standards prepares them to become future contributors to the nation’s quality ecosystem. The sessions covered topics like standardization, certification, testing, training, and academic outreach.BIS is a statutory body under the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. It operates various schemes, including Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hallmarking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts, and Laboratory Services, for the benefit of the industry, aiming at consumer protection, the release said.Published - October 09, 2025 05:45 am IST
