Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg has announced that he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.“Two weeks ago, I met President Trump and his wife in New York,” he said. “As the person who led the OSCE in 2024, I worked with many people on the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan for a peace that was finally achieved this summer thanks to the US President.”“I presented the American President with a letter I wrote myself, in which I informed him that, like many others, I have nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. I also encouraged him to continue working on the Middle East and Ukraine.”“I am glad to see a greater commitment that is moving us closer towards peace.”Trump has repeatedly expressed his wish to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts resolving global conflicts – including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The last time a US President won the Nobel Peace Prize was in 2009, when Barack Obama was honoured “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.•
