Donald Trump and his flunkies are currently engaged in a bitter war with reality itself. They insist that Democratic voting strongholds like Chicago and Portland have descended into Mad Max-style anarchy, describing them as “in flames,” a “warzone,” and even comparing them to the European front of World War II. These wild stories are designed to justify sending troops into the cities to pacify their residents and snatch anyone they don’t like off the streets. Judges have already stepped in to declare this unconstitutional, with Trump countering by threatening to invoke the emergency power of the Insurrection Act. Problem is… there’s no insurrection. An Oregon judge has described Trump’s wild claims as “untethered to reality” but each day the claims get more absurd. That’s right! You heard me right.” Uh, I’m not sure that is right Kash. Chicago has a population of around 2.7 million, meaning that 110,000 gang members would be about 5% of the total population, or 1 in 20 people. However, even that’s not a true reflection of how utterly deranged this claim is. Statistics time! After all, 2.7 million people is the total population, including women, children, and the elderly, all of whom are far less likely to be gang members. According to the most recent figures, there are 891,350 males aged 13-50 in Chicago, but let’s be generous and say that some women and those over 50 might be in a criminal gang. So, based on the figures, it’s a fair estimate to say there are a million Chicago residents who could at least theoretically be gang members. This means that, as per FBI director and noted brain genius Kash Patel, over one in ten eligible people in Chicago is an “active gang member”. If this were true (it’s not), then Trump is going to need a lot more than 400 tubby Texas National Guardsmen to win that “war”! But, of course, Republicans can rest easy that the target for these messages – MAGA devotees – are poorly educated, gullible rubes with no critical thinking abilities or any knowledge of statistics. They’ll hoover up these increasingly bizarre and unhinged pronouncements like they’re the word of God itself, happily living in the terrifying false reality that Trump and his ilk are eager to plunge them into.
