Rotaract Club of Georgetown rehabilitates Bel Air Primary School classroom

In an ultimate display of selflessness, community spirit, and collaboration, volunteers from the Rotaract Club of Georgetown came together to rehabilitate a classroom and provide minor updates to the reading room at Bel Air Primary School.Their intention of breathing new life into a room that will serve both its students and teachers throughout the new school year came to an end after three (3) weeks of work.The initiative, spearheaded by Community Service Director / Past President Liam and Project Lead Jomeala, aimed to create a more engaging and safe learning environment for children. Over the course of three (3) weeks, with the support of President Kimberly, the Board of Directors and club members worked tirelessly to repaint walls, create an anti-bully mural, replace the furniture, install new bookshelves, provide essential learning materials and other administrative changes. The project culminated with a short meet-up with the students, teachers, and volunteers from the club.“This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause,” said Director Liam, while President Kimberly emphasised that “Education is the foundation of our future, and every child deserves a space that inspires learning and growth. Vice President Marissa encouraged the students to “Be a friend, not a bully’ in an effort to support togetherness and comradery in schools.The rehabilitated classroom now features:Freshly painted walls with Educational & Anti-Bullying muralsNewly constructed wooden desks and benches for studentsNew Teacher’s Desk and ChairNew bookshelves with a mini library cornerMini chalkboards and learning chartsNew curtains & fansNew school supplies; pencils, erasers, cardboard, etc.The class teacher, Miss Heather, expressed her gratitude, noting the positive impact the improved environment will have on student morale. One student expressed his thankfulness for the support of the youth-based organisation.  The success of this project was achieved with the support of our main collaborators: Rotary Club of Georgetown, Shamdas Kirpalani Rahaman & Sons Auto Spares, Quick Shipping Inc. and Farad Lakeram. They all inspired the RCG volunteers to go the extra mile to improve the classroom settings with their relentless support.
