The Ministry of Housing has been tasked with examining the feasibility of a new railway link connecting the East Coast and the East Bank of Demerara, President Dr Irfaan Ali said on Tuesday. The Guyanese Head of State made the announcement as he visited ongoing road work along the East Bank. He said the government is advancing its plan of building new highways so that traffic flow and connectivity are vastly improved. However, a railway link is under consideration too.“Between the Buzz Bee Dam four lane (highway), there is a high dam, you would notice, going all the way to the East Bank and then the East Coast. That is the dam that we had identified for the possibility of a rail link.“I’ve asked the Ministry of Housing to come up with a study within the next six weeks as to the cost for a light commercial rail link along the East Coast, East Bank corridor,” President Ali said during his Tuesday afternoon visit.
