Bandits invade Canje teacher’s house, steal nearly $1 million

Tragedy struck Shaleelza Ramcharan and her family on Tuesday afternoon after it was discovered that bandits burglarised her East Canje, Berbice, residence.In an interview with reporters, Ramcharan, 35, from Lot 80 East Canefield settlement, East Canje, revealed that her husband and two children left the house around 07:30 hrs Tuesday.Shaleelza, who teaches at a public school and runs a small shop, stated that upon her return home at approximately 14:46 hrs, she discovered that the padlock on the door of the ground floor was open. She said she promptly called her husband to inform him of the situation.Upon entering the home, Shaleelza observed that both the lower and upper floors had been ransacked.Shaleelza stated that she had kept $500,000 in cash from her MMG business, in addition to other money, which was now missing. Furthermore, the jewelry belonging to her, her husband, and her children, valued at $400,000, was also taken.Shaleelza mentioned that the thieves stole her husband’s sneakers, perfumes, and their high-end alcoholic beverages.The family is still processing the distressing event.“I am quite shaken, hurt, and sad…Alot of emotions.
